“And don’t allow yourselves to be weary or disheartened in planting good seeds, for the season of reaping the wonderful harvest you’ve planted is coming!”
As my head hits the pillow after a long, full day of running a home, a family and a business, I often cast my thoughts to the next day looming ahead. Usually it looks just as full, just as busy as the one I just survived. So many of the tasks completed today will be undone by mid morning tomorrow and will need re-doing. So much effort and care into some things that seem to be bearing little to no fruit. Some nights I start to let those worn out thoughts dance around in my mind. Why am I bothering? Is this worth the sacrifice? Is this still what God is calling me to?
But you know what? I’m beginning to see much more clearly how the enemy uses my weariness to confuse me. He wants me to quit the things that are planting good seeds because he doesn’t want anything to grow from them.
Paul writes these encouraging words in Galatians “Don’t allow yourselves to be weary or disheartened in planting good seeds, for the harvest is coming!”
Your harvest is coming. Paul also writes in verse 8 that ‘the harvest you reap reveals the seed that was planted.’ If you are planting good seeds, you will reap a good harvest. Don’t be tricked into giving up because you are tired. You need to rest not quit!
Value rest: plan it and prioritise it – physical rest, mental rest AND spiritual rest.
Father God, thank you for never forgetting me in my planting season. Give me strength and perseverance to endure the wait for my harvest. Help me to not give up when I’m tired but to look to you for rest and refreshment.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
